Red Sparowes

Californa based Post-Rock heroes Red Sparowes have at last dropped a new LP for us to gleam over, 4 years post their last LP 'Every Red Heart Shines toward the Sun'. 'The fear is excruciating, but therein lies an answer'. as well as being a long title is an amazing record, fans of them and their prior work will love this record, and fans of Post-Rock, Epic-core is you will, will also love this album. A beautifully melodic album, amazing build ups and drawn out calm intro's to crushing drops as all post rock lovers would expect and want to hear.

Musically this band has a lot of roots which stem out into other amazing bands, splits with Gregor Samsa, Grails, Battle of Mice, and ex members of Isis, Angel Hair and Neurosis, somewhat a superband you could say. and as you could imagine having experiance and influences from such amazing bands breeds quality, and Red Sparowes give us plenty of that in this album. Instrumental albums aren't for everybody, but the lack of vocals is made up for with the size of the songs, and the melody each song brings. Out of Neurot Recordings, and produced by Melvins/Big Biz favourite Toshi Kasai. The album is set for release 6th of April, Vinyl of this will be immense.

Track list: The Fear is Excruciating, but therein lies the Answer 2010

2. "In Illusions of Order" 7:37
3. "A Hail of Bombs" 4:22

Six Organs of Admittance

Six Organs of Admittance a favorite of mine over the last year. Ben Chansey brings us Spacey Folk Guitar driven epics, a unique sound and a blistering, atmospheric and sophisticated blend of music. Chansey has a fairly large back catalogue,I am working my way through it, and so far have been nothing short of amazed with everything I have heard, I feel Luminous Night however is a fairly accessible work and contains some of my favorite songs of his, namely 'Anesthesia' and 'Bar-Nasha'.

A fairly big name in the 'New Weird America' movement, Luminous Night has helped to be produced by Sunn O))) and Current 93 Six Organs brings the use of guitar to a different plane through his works, reminiscent of a Western in some parts, huge amounts of atmosphere, looming vocal harmonies and psychedelic induced guitar work. Released on Drag City Records who have the accolade of Boris & Michio Kurihara, Pavement and some other great artists.

'Luminous Night' has become one of my favorite albums the whole 'Freak Folk' doesn't lend itself to easy description, however I will say it brings a psychedelic laced, enthralling and beautifully paced work, a must listen record.

Tracklist: Luminous Night 2009

01 Actaeon's Fall (Against the Hounds)
02 Anesthesia
03 Bar-Nasha
04 Cover Your Wounds With the Sky
05 Ursa Minor
06 River of Heaven
07 The Ballad of Charley Harper
08 Enemies Before the Light

PRE

PRE; Noisey five piece made up of drums, guitars, vocals and 2 basses, are a London based Noise Rock/Punk outfit on Skin Graft records (also home to some other great bands AIDS wolf, Ruins and Melt-Banana! to mention a few.) PRE have been likened to other noise-punk bands such as fore-mentioned Melt Banana, and for her live prescene and style, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, namely the lovely Karen O.

Aikio, the vocalist thrashes around like a woman possesed and really brings together the ethos of the band, amongst all the flailing mess on stage. Fans of Coughs, AIDS Wolf, and the more current noise scene will enjoy these guys. Epic fits is a short and sweet burst of an album, whirling and thrashing it's way through 15 tracks. Trendy a reputation these guys seems to have picked up, they're pushing out good tracks, also topless asian babes ftw.

Track Listing: Epic Fits 2007

1. Drool
2. Fudging on Our Folks
3. Scenes From a 1963 Los Angeles Love-In
4. Slash in the Snakepit
5. Ace Cock
6. I Met Her in the Bin
7. Nope Fun
8. So Jazzed
9. Dude Fuk
10. Greasers
11. Popping Showers
12. And Prolapse

Daughters - Daughters

Noisey sons of the well loved Hydra Head have a new album! Of course you can expect spazzy noise from these guys, this self titled album doesn't disappoint, a somewhat softer album leaning away from grindcore and pulling more into Art-punk-esq noise, good to see a band try something a bit different and not be afraid to be ever so slightly more accessible, enjoy.

Caribou - Swim

Caribou; Influential Canadian Dan Snaith and his experimental musings, someone I've been recommended a fair amount of times but never really got around too, he has now released his new album Swim, so I checked it out, and I'm glad I did. Caribou brings a fairly accsessible yet free, flowing and catchy electronica laced album that I'm sure Cairbou fans won't be displeased with. I heard that Eye, of the Boredorms was influenced but this man, a huge accolade!

Pavement - Quarantine the Past

Indie Rock scene familiars Pavement, I'm sure this band need no intro, this is their latest output, of b sides and other tracks, not an album of new material, but considering their career they have a fairly small discography. Quarantine the Past is a welcome addition to it, I wish i was going to their ATP!

Kría Brekkan - Apotropaíosong Armor

Kría Brekkan former member of Icelandic lovelies múm has set out on her own path to bring us dreamy icelandic avant-garde, Apotropaíosong Armor has traces of mum but has an overall darker and more experimental feel to it. Kria has worked with Animal Collective and Mice Parade in the past, she has also just released an EP named Uterus Water however I feel this album is a good introduction to her work, and will hopefully see another LP sometime soon!

White Medal - Tread The Earth

Raw Black Metal lo-fi Noise from George Proctor, aka the noisy 'Mutant Ape'. Proctor is a big name in the noise scene, having splits with 'The Rita' amongst others, however White Medal is a more musically structured outlet from him. For a one man Black metal project from Yorkshire this is a great record, and I can see the UK black metal scene improving, White Medal being one of more prominent artist. Recently having done a split with Skullflower, I like this record as it's got a fair amount of tracks and a true raw metal ethos. George is on Tugrid Animal Records who have a plethora of noise projects going on. There are other White Medal records floating about, sometimes hard to find though! Anyway this is a great record beat blasting dirt vocaled black filth, enjoy!

Coughs - Fright Makes Right LP

Wrecking Pissed off Punk Noise in full swing here, Coughs are a 2 drum packing 6 piece band pushing out dirty noise rock. On Load Records along with some other great artists, Prurient, Excepter, Khanate amongst others. Coughs have a great blend of noise and some industrial/experimental-esq sounds. This LP is fairly damaging and brings to mind early Swans, which is of course a good thing. I've read they use oil barrels for drums and have a strong live performance, would love to have seen it! RIP Coughs.
