Bermuda Drain

Prurients new direction, you'll love it or hate it...I can't think of many people who can evoke so much speaking about ramming a branch into someone, really into this album.

melt banana and discordance axis split

two bands, who to me are leaders in the field in their own genres, on an unlikely but incredible 7". short and sweet with covers of each others tracks, this is a gem.

Disguster - Human all too Human

Decent one man Black Metal from the UK for a change. "Human all too Human" his 2010 EP release. Nietzsche quotes make it all the better.

Assück - Misery Index

Assück was a grindcore band from St. Petersburg, Florida. They existed from 1987 to 1998. They released two 12” albums, Misery Index, and Anticapital, as well as numerous 7”, split 7” records and various comp tracks. In fact, Anticapital was released with the early Blindspot 7”. They were one of the most important North American grindcore bands and still have a strong cult following. Sometimes described as the best example of “hardcore kids playing death metal,” and they sound the part rather well, with very technical drumming, tuned-down guitars and gruff vocals. There are no guitar solos, unlike most death metal, and more poetic and existential, vaguely-political lyrics, delivered in a unique and carefully-measured rhythm.

Corrupted - El Mundo Frio

Crushing, press hating Japanese Doomsters Corrupted and their hour plus long song/album the mighty El Mundo Frio, considering the track length this is an amazing song that to me doesn't get boring. A doom bench mark.

Jute Gyte

Jute Gyte is a solo artist creating noise, ambient music, black metal, experimental electronic music, and works in other less-easily defined genres. Old Ways is more a raw BM album than other works of Jute Gyte, primitive black metal.

Heroin

A hardcore emo band from San Diego that pioneered many elements of screamo in 1991. They thrashed about with a sound like none other. Consisting of Matt Anderson on vocals, with Ron Johnson, Scott Bartiloni and Aaron Montaigne. After they broke up they went on to form and play with bands such as End of the Line, Antioch Arrow, Spacehorse and Clikatat Ikatowi. Heroin were one of the many decent bands to come from the 90's emo/hardcore scene, Heroin become one of my favourites with their hardcore roots, and somewhat post-rock catchiness without losing that hardcore sound, Head Cold and Indecision are on heavy rotation.

Man is the Bastard - D.I.Y.C.D

Man is the Bastard, the premier power-violence band of the early 90's, I've had a couple of posts of their offshoot Bastard Noise, but nothing as of yet by MITB. So, Man is the bastard has grown to become one of my favourite bands, their unique bass driven sound always stays energetic and brutal without being a blur of noise, and maintaining an aggressive and progressive ideal. D.I.Y.C.D is an anthology released in 1995 it's a rawer sound of MITB with shorter songs as compared to some later CD's, Sum of the men having much longer songs which branched more into the noise field. This is a great introduction to MITB, and any fans will have had many a mosh to this already, West Coast power violence, kick ass!

Ash Pool - From which he plies the lash

Ash Pool, based in New York, New York, came to life in 2005. The duo which plays black metal in a primitive, yet catchy and melancholic style is comprised of Dominick Fernow (Prurient, Vegas Martyrs, Taylor Bow) and Kris Lapke (Alberich, Northern Cross). Their latest release 'From which he plies the lash' is an interesting blend of musical styles, of course we have the raw BM elements but there are also some thrash elements which make for a more accomplished sound. The production values have somewhat increased and moved away from the rawer cassette sounds, but nonetheless a good record.
