Battle of Wolf 359/Singaia Split 7"

Still crying over the fact that I've somehow managed to miss this band twice! Battle of Wolf 359 are one of the few up and coming if you will, although they are making quite big ripples in the whole scream scene especially after the release of their LP. BOW359 are one of the few 'scream hardcore' bands from Britain, or at least one of the few gaining a big following. A great mix of thrashy hardcore, and elements of hardcore scremo, BOW are brining an exciting blend of styles to create their sound, heavy, fast and melodic. this split with Singaia has 2 great tracks that really define their sound and intensity, here's to hoping they do something in the UK sometime soon, although i'm pretty they wont be…

Singaia, a band fairly new to me to be honest have really caught my attention on this split, a band pushing out a more traditionally Scremo sound, with more chaotic me elements, thrashing through the four songs with blistering pace and full throttle me chaos, some amazing tracks. from Germany, Europe is of course well known for it's amazing contribution to Emo and Screamo, namely some of my favourite bands, Singaia have a sound closer to the likes of La Quiete with the more chaotic screaming guitars and full out vocals, also the use of vocals is something that will be heard a lot in chaotic me bands, my ear will be to the ground for more Singaia, your should too, enjoy the split.

Akitsa - Goétie

Trailing through the countryside on a slow, delayed train, I find myself lost in the Blackened Crusty noise that is Akitsa. Akitsa are a Raw, Depressive Black Metal from Quebec Montreal fusing traditional Forest Black Metal if you will, at least in terms of it's typical Black Metal production, or lack there of, raw sound, clawing vocals, and screeching guitar, they fuse this with some elements of Crust which brings a heavier side to their sound.

this album 'Goétie' is a great example of Raw BM, despite their tags on last fm, they do not associate with any national socialist views, a positive in my eyes, and Canada of course more liberal than some other black metal home lands. 'Goétie' is a lengthy unforgiven LP than any BM fan can appreciate. The Crust influence is more prevalent in some tracks than others, 'Affront Final' is a good example of this. The production of the album has somewhat more presence and density than most DBM productions. Being a French speaking band is of course a plus in Black Metal, in some aspects it could be likened to some LLN artist. Overall Akitsa have a heavier, brutal style of Black Metal, worth a listen.

Tracklisting - 'Goétie' 2001

1. "Ouverture De L'espirit" 4:28
2. "Haine Et Vengeance" 5:19

Thrones - Late for Dinner

Thrones, the solo project of well renowned bassist and all round dude Joe Preston, former Earth, Melvins and others offers us a new output in 'Late for Dinner' only a 7", but hopefully leading to a new album, soon to be on a euro tour with Nadja, annoyingly not stopping in the UK at all! but nonetheless Late for dinner offers a faster beat, and a more liner song, closer to Sludge rock than some of his earlier efforts that had more of a drone aspect. Anyways Wage War and and Trmph Lfe are two strong songs. Thrones fans will lap it up, mosh outttt! Day late Dollar Short is probably my favourite album of his, Algol is favourite track. but for people new to Thrones this is a good balls out 7"

Tracklist - Later for Dinner 7"

1. "Wage War" 5:15
2. "Trmph Lfe" 3:40

Off Minor - Some Blood

Off Minor, 3/5's of one of my favourite ever bands, Screamos infamous Saetia. Off Minor took a more Punk fuelled direction, heavier riffs, a bit faster and thrasher, but maintaining a screamo element. Some Blood is their last LP output, back in 2008, I'm still fairly new to this band, for whatever reason it took me a while to get around to them, but I'm glad I did. Some Blood is a great Hardcore/Screamo LP, Practice Absence, the final track, was an instant classic to me, and has been on repeat thusly.

The band have a much more upbeat sound than that of Saetia, their sound leans more toward a Hardcore-esq sound, in some parts than say a traditional Scremo sound, however some stand out tracks include the more Emo build ups and chaoticness. Some Blood throws 22 minutes of amazing chaotic, mathy emo tunes, great album all round!

Tracklist: "Some Blood" 2008

1. "Neologist" 2:36
2. "Some Blood" 2:12
3. "Everything Explicit" 5:55
4. "To An Ex" 2:09
5. "No Conversationalist I" 0:43
6. "Practice Absence" 8:47

SWANS - Cop / Young God

HOLY SHIT!

So a slightly delayed reaction, You may of heard that SWANS are going to be headlining Supersonic this year! yes, SWANS are actually going to be playing live, at a fucking amazing festival, never thought I'd have a chance to see it. Supersonic is amazing as it is, but this will be insane. So in honour of that another Swans album for you to enjoy!

Cop / Young God, SWANS 2nd studio album after Filth this release also contains Young God, an 84 EP, Filth was previously posted here.is another instalment of ugly, powerful noise rock, an acquired taste, but if it is your taste you will find it representative and somewhat relatable in its harshness. The album is somewhat more melodic than their earlier effort in Filth, the lyrical content is still just as present, and raw. it maintains the sound and brutality that made them what they are, a great album, will be so good live! stoked!
