Bastard Noise / Endless Blockade - The Red List

'The Red List' the long anticipated output from harsh noise, power-violence menaces Bastard Noise, a shoot off from Hardcore/Power-violence heavies Man is the Bastard, and crushing new blood The Endless Blockade. 'The Red List' incorporates somewhat a new direction for Bastard Noise, they other releases generally being pure noise, on this split they embrace more structure, reminiscent of MITB which can't be a bad thing now, can it?

The Endless Blockade come out shooting with a 15 minute long opener, and the other two tracks are remix tracks by Noah Creschevsky and The Rita, which brings us back to harsh noise and messy tear ups. Fans of either of these bands will not be disappointed, and including the remix's this split would serve as a great introduction to the Harsh noise scene as these two bands are on top form, it's still alive. Long be it's reign.

Wooden Shjips - Dos

Wooden Shjips put to sound what tripping out for days in a cloud must feel like, a blend of psychedelic, trance inducing, wow I must be in Woodstock rock to the table and leave there covered in riffs and dudes. Their latest effort 'Dos' released 2009, is a great album, sticking much the same to their psychedelic vibe, employing some hints of Garage rock and drone elements to give a beautifully crafted texture to this album. Soon to be playing at Pavements ATP which looks amazing, and some other shows, although this band already have a good following I see bright things for them in a time where I feel psychedelic could pick up again with bands like Dead Meadow and these guys keeping it alive, although I guess it never died.

Anyway, this album plays on effortlessly and leaves you reclined and vulnerable to the suggestible rhythms and long drawn up solos that don't tire. their self titled released is also highly acclaimed and I suggest you check that out too, this album though is a great introduction to Wooden Shjips, Enjoy.

Thee Silver Mt. Zion - Kollaps Tradixionales

Thee/A/Tra la la band/ Whichever, A Silver Mt.Zion have released a new album, Kollaps Tradixionales. An offshoot from the legends Godspeed! Mt.Zion started off apparently as a means of Efrim Menuck learning how to score properly, and create more theorised outputs, but after working on Mt. Zion for a while he decided to just go without what ever sounded best, which turns out to have been a good move. A silver Mt. Zion have a great back catalogue and on this latest album, show no signs of slowing down. To me always inappropriately tagged as Post-rock, they are beyond easy classification, but definitely have some folk and Avant-Garde elements to their sound. ATP have launched a tour for them which I am hoping to attend, you should too.

Anyway, more on the album, The band have managed to bring yet another anthem, melodic and unique album to us, the vocals retain a distinct sound, and so do the other elements of this band, a couple of songs i feel have embraced a new direction, such as the track "I built myself a metal bird" having a guitar heavy intro, and going into a more energetic than normal pace, still this I like, it's good to see they are still experimenting, and still progressing.

The pace of the album lingers beautifully, something that Mt.Zion have always been able to maintain is atmosphere, this is present on this album. Any fans of A Silver Mt. Zion will not be disappointed, and any wandering new fans could appreciate this album, and enjoy working through their amazing discography. Kollaps Tradixionales is so easy to get lost in, huge, hazy and in parts delicate, this is a great LP from a superb group.

Four Tet - There is Love in You

Four Tet, the moniker of Kieran Hebden. "There is Love in You" is the latest output from acclaimed Electro hero under Four Tet. Released late Jan 2010 this album has been making waves, It has a perfect blend of rhythm and pace to give an album that is not hurried or slow, but an album that is easy to drift into and stay in. Four Tet is a well established figure in the Electronica world, his split with fellow Electronica regular Burial has put the two in good stead keeping the scene thriving into 2010.

Hedben is a multi instrumentalist and this really comes across in his work, the album has folk elements, reminding me particularly of Icelandic folk, catchy and upbeat with hints of electro, although this album of course is predominantly Electro based. The Tracks "Sing" and "Circling" has this feel to them, and are two of my favourites on the album. An album that has immediate listenability and a confident minimalism that flows from start to finish.

Pyramids with Nadja

The result of a match made in heaven. Pyramids with Nadja self titled album is an ambient, droning, delicate, incredible release from 2009, This lengthy just shy an of hour 4 track LP opens with the stunning and gripping "Into the silent waves" it progressed impeccably into the climax of "An angel was heard to cry over the city of rome" a perfect end to the album.

I would hope they would work together again as they blend so effortlessly to retain their individual sounds, yet create something new in the process, Pyramids retain elements of their trademark sounds, namely the double bass drums and echoing vocals. and Nadja retain they're density and impact. Pyramids have collaborate with a who's who of musicians, two of the tracks on this album have been remixed by the legendary Ulver and the dark Lustmord. Pyramids first LP "Pyramids" had also been remixed by black metal outfit, Blut Aus Nord, and post-rock heroes Jesu among others. It also includes appearances from members of emo rocks Mineral, and Simon Raymonde of UK dream pop Cocteua Twins. Safe to say that amongst musicians Hydraheads' Pyramids have caused a very big stir.

Nadja of course, the Canadian drone duo of Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff. These two are now strangers to praise either. Separately both bands have some great releases, the well known cover LP by Nadja "When I see the sun always shines on TV" and "Touched" among many others. But anyway, enjoy this release, and lets hope for another collabartion and release on vinyl!

Honeywell -The Phantom Racer Club Cassette No. 1

Honeywell, one of the pioneering Screamo bands if you will, active in the early 90's along with a shedload of other Hardcore, Screamo, Emo bands (Heroin, Mohinder, Portraits of Past) etc, all that goodness. Honeywell were one of my favorites as some of the songs had strong emo writing, "I'm not listening, I'm not listening anymore." springs to mind. A band that remained fairly underground. The self titled 12" '93 was a landmark album that is said to influence band like the amazing Orchid, Reversal of man and so, the chaotic uprise of emo/screamo.

Honeywell did some splits with Reach Out, and had some EP's which are fairly hard to come by. I've read (on last fm) that during a rehearsal someone shouted “Hey Josh, why not try screaming like a girl” I really can't believe this as so many bands in a similar vein were around early 90's screaming their hearts out too, but there you go, the origins of Screamo have always been contested, but fuck it I love Screamo.

This album, "The Phantom Racer Club Cassette" is one of their demos, I'm not sure of it's exact release but of course it would be pre '93. it's a fairly messy, raw album, my favorite kind, so enjoy.

Distorted Pony - Punishment Room

Delving back into the Noise rock aficionado, 1986 saw the rise of Distorted Pony, the release of this LP came about in 1992, produced by Steve Albini (Big Black, Shellac). Reminiscent of Big Black with some Industrial noisyness thrown in for good measure, this Texas outfit throw out a great debut LP, on BOMP! records, out of only two made before their disbandment in '92. Between the great noise and angst is a anthemic foundation that emerges in some songs, such as "Gutbug", a great album all round, like My Bloody Valentine pissed on Stella stumbling through the door after a bad day at work.

"I wanna boyfriend just like you, I wanna get fucked, just like you."

SWANS - Filth

SWANS, arguably one of the bigger influences on noise rock, industrial, hate filled misanthropic mess from the early 80's. Filth is their first LP, and one of my favorites, the title goes along way to sum this album up. Led by Gira, notorious for being a fairly unhappy man, attacking audience members and reportedly leaving audiences feeling physically ill with their brand of misanthropic deathly noise. Still as much hate as this album has it has rhythm that gives it listenability. Lyrically I love this album, so raw, an unnerving view into the haunting mind of Gira.

Their style developed more over the years, with notable songs such as "Beautiful Child" which brought more a melodic, and produced outcome than this early album/EP which is alot more Raw and subject to base emotions which come across strongly with Gira lyrics and tendency to repeatedly scream, having reformed this year! we may see some new material, and if I'm lucky some live SWANS.

Moëvöt (Les legions noires)

Those unfamiliar with French Black Metal, this is Moëvöt, Moëvöt is a solo project by Vórdb Báthor Ecsed. Vórdb is the leader of a black metal legion in France, Les Légions Noires aka The Black Legions.

There are a lot of counterfeit demos of his circulating , as fair as I know I've heard two, including this demo abgzvoryathre. But anyway, Moëvöt brings a great ambient, atmospheric, depressive raw black metal demo forward here, Vórdb has many other projects of interest, including Belkètre, and the raw aggressive black metal of Black Murder. France has an amazing scene of Black Metal, and also Screamo and I'm sure many other genres.

Daïtro - Des Cendres, Je Me Consumme

Daïtro's 1st LP 'Des Cendres, Je Me Consumme' released in 2004. Daïtro have for a while now been one of my favourite bands, they are true Screamo legends and rightly so, melodic and chaotic, they intertwine it all so well to bring their own blend of French Screamo. Fresh off the Release of their 2009 album 'Y' a great record, however, I always feel it's best to start at the beggining. Have a listen to this album, please support them if you like.

Please supoort bands, do gigs, buy movies if you like them and so on, keep it fucking mexico.

To kick this off

Aerosols new LP + 4th EP

Courtesy of icoulddietommorow check them out, great stuff. More on Aerosols, this band is getting a lot of steam with their blend of powerviolence and punked out trashy mess, I'm digging it, so have a listen. On the Youth Attack! label, the LP sold out in the first day, hype! Includes ex members of Ampere who also fucking kill it. Expect to see a lot from this band.
